| July 15, 2009 - Birthday Cakes |
July 15, 2009 Ever since my daughter was born, I would order the most extravagant cake from a local bakery for her birthday. As she got older (she is now 5), I noticed she didn't care about the fancy cakes. This year I decided I would make a Duncan Hines cake with sprinkles for her birthday. She loved it, it was a huge hit, and I saved $120 dollars. But I was concerned about the ingredients in those commercial cake mixes. Needless to say, the folks over at Naturally Nora sent me cases of her cake and frosting mixes to try out. The mixes contain sugar, milk, and flour but no chemicals or additives that we can't pronounce. They even come with sprinkles, which are not as brightly colored as the commercial brands, but I think their muted colors are very gourmet-looking. I highly recommend replacing cake mixes with the natural selections found at the health food stores. |
