My name is Krissy Dorn and I live in Fairfield, CT. I am an Energy Work Practitioner. I have my own practice at The Total Life Care Center and also volunteer my services at a local cancer center. I studied at the Connecticut Healing Institute. I also am an actress and painter (studied at Roanoke College and the University of CT).

Recently, I wrote and performed a one-woman show about spirituality and terminal illness. But the most important job I do is being a mom to one really uber-cool kid. I am on the PTA and I clip coupons, pick up dog poop, and clean hamster cages. I cook meals for my daughter and husband that no one ever likes. I am your everyday kind of gal. I am so excited to write for the Peaceful Daily because I can represent all my fellow spiritual “novices,” who, like me, are trying to make sense of it all while keeping their sense of humor.

Annie’s personal journey into sustainable living began in 1994 when she and her husband rented a turn-of-the-century cabin in the woods with the idealistic intention of “getting back to the simple life”. In addition to forgoing television and refrigeration, she began composting, organic gardening, whole-foods cooking, and learning to live without chemicals, synthetics, and plastics whenever possible. During this year-long experiment, she learned that change need not be radical—it can happen slowly, unfolding as necessity or conscience or feasibility permits. She also learned that the bucolic image of the “simple life” can happen anywhere with a little creativity and imagination.

Today Annie continues to live a simpler, more environmentally responsible life in the Los Angeles area where she and her husband homeschool their two children. She finds learning opportunities all around her and has since delved into natural building, macrobiotics, and permaculture. In addition to learning how to live more lightly in an ecologically fragile world, Annie also enjoys traditional fiber arts, reading, yoga, and whenever possible, doing nothing.
